As I sit with the absolute horror that has unfolded in Palestine over the past five weeks, my stomach curdles. I feel sick. No words do justice to the atrocities, to the utter insanity...
Looking at the chart for the New Moon in Scorpio, it strikes me that we have two options: avoidance or heartbreak.
This is not a letter of avoidance.
A New Moon in Scorpio, with Mars, and opposite Uranus, speaks to violence. It is explosive. Confronting. Traumatic. Triggering.
It also may be: the spark of revolution, the determination of a whole new way. For Righteous Anger and for Clear Sight. For Ceasefire--this lunar month, let us call it into being.
Mars rules over the North Node in Aries--our collective destiny, aligned with Eris, who embodies the righteous rage of those who are oppressed. She is square (in tension with) Pluto, the Lord of Hell.
The Moon brings our feelings to the forefront. Trauma. Fear. Rage. Heartbreak.
The Sun puts it all in the spotlight. The ugly, ugly truth. Revealing what was there all along, but has been enflamed for all the world to see: the inhumanity, the oppression. Genocide! Evil is the only word.
Mercury square Saturn supports the message of STOP, of NO MORE, of Ceasefire Now.
The New Moon trine Neptune means: hope lies on the other side of heartbreak, if we can, if we will, FEEL.
Neptune is the great mystery. When all else fails, and the human is too small to bear atrocity, only God (or Love, if you prefer) can help us now.
Uranus governs trauma, and not only are there traumatic events, not only are so many people triggered for so many reasons, but we also witness the weaponization of generations of trauma that deludes the heart into supporting horror, replicating the source of pain, not seeing it as the cycle of violence amplified.
The weaponization of trauma is ammunition for the war machine, the true enemy. Some say it's this people vs. that people. But truly, it’s the war machine, the colonial state, a few monsters and their manufactured consent vs. The People. No people deserve war, and no people, as a people, are to blame.
(I hope my readers are nuanced enough not to conflate the state of Israel with Jewish people. There are plenty of Jews who support ceasefire, who are against the occupation, who are not zionists. And while criticizing Israel is not antisemitic, and many claims to antisemitism are false, actual antisemitism is on the rise. As is racism. So let us be clear that it is the violent state we oppose, not a people.)
Pluto, modern ruler of Scorpio, is doorway to the subconscious, to what has been repressed, what we cannot bear to see. When people experience or are born to lineages that experienced horror, if they aren't able to heal, if the trauma remains repressed, there can be a compulsion to enact that same horror upon others. Because there is something they cannot see in themselves, there is something they cannot see in the world. It is perhaps the face of evil.
Pluto is also the potential for bringing the repressed to light--either outwardly, violently, upon others, OR inwardly, through awareness and love and healing. Through integrating the Shadow. Pluto is the potential for transformation, for evolution.
With Pluto square the nodes for many months, this is a tremendous choice point for humanity: to choose repression, or to choose healing; to choose history, or to choose to choose evolution.
And so while I would never tell people who are under attack to "heal," for those with the capacity and the privilege to be able to do so, it is at least as important as more visible forms of activism. It is the necessary, invisible work required for Never Again.
Not instead of taking action, but in support of it. So our action is rooted in love.
How? When we are triggered, to feel and be with what has been activated. To sit with it, to sit with ourselves. To get curious about what's happening in the body. To slow down long enough to look inside. To feel what is coming up, and let it move through the body. To let the body follow its own wisdom, to process pain. We may need support. We may need prayer. We may need time. And depending on the person and the context, it may be impossible to fully heal without structural changes, without political changes, without justice.
Scorpio is Sign of ancient pain, of betrayal, of revenge, of retribution, of the poisoned sting. It is also Sign of impossible survival, of worse than death, of somehow, somehow, coming out the other side. Of transmutation through the flames, of emerging of the ashes. Of the potential for miraculous regeneration. Of the phoenix who spreads its wings amid devastation. Of the one who finds light by going into the darkest depths.
The only way through is through.
What empowered Love shall we arrive at through going within, through the work of feeling, tending, being, breathing? Through going through rage to heartbreak, and out the other side. Where courage and compassion live. Where light lives. Where hope lives. Where we might say, with resolve and with Love: Ceasefire Now.
The New Moon is exact at 1:27am PST on November 13th. It is conjunct Mars, opposite Uranus, and trine Neptune. The Moon is ruled by Pluto, square the Nodes and Eris. Mercury is square Saturn and sextile Venus.
